last year I saw a riding mower on a local sales site, went and bought it. Looked pretty good, he said it ran fine, just needed a battery. I knew it was a risk not getting it running before buying it, but being a capable mechanic I take those risks. It's a troybuilt. Didn't get around to doing anything with it. But the last week or so I got into it to start analyzing it. 3 flat tires, determined they were leaking out the sidewalls, dry rotted, so ordered 4 tubes. Put a battery in and started foolin with the engine, it run on choke cleaner, so pulled the carb and took it apart, clogged fuel needle orifice, swelled needle tip, messed up o ring, carb kit ordered for it. So the tubes come and the carb kit comes and I get em installed, and it runs, and starts dumping oil into the intake from the blowby hose. So I take off the oil seperator and nothing visibly wrong, drill a bigger drain hole and put it back on. Still does it but not as bad and rarely. But it runs clear a bit and then starts smokin worse and worse with the oil not comin outa the blowby hose. I suspect head gasket is blown. Pull that off next time it rains and I can't be tillin and plantin stuff. So with all I find wrong with it, the guy I bought it from was not being very honest about it. But I didn't pay that much for it so it's no big deal. I plan to set it up for collecting chopped grass for mulch. Got a powered grass kicker to mount on the deck, and rig a belt off the motor shaft to run it. Got a little trailer to put behind it to catch the grass. I can find grass to mow, need lots and lots of mulch for everything.

You did have to put a lot of work into it (with more to do yet). Glad you can use it, though. Even with the parts, I am sure it's still cheaper than buying one.
