I dunno if these odd lookin' bugs are true flies, or are in the wasp family. Most full fill the role of pollinators (IE good bugs).
I've had some that very particular about the plants they visit.
How pleasant...

are you talking about those annoying, yet harmless lil hoverflies?? the ones that come watch you at work...just hovering in the air ?

i remember reading that surfer flies or hoverflies eat aphids??? good bugs!!
