We built a chicken tractor from salvage building materials we had on hand..... Our purpose was to provide a place to keep a few chickens in the garden all the time... this way we rotate the chickens to the garden every week and move the tractor between the rows each time... We lost 6 chickens to a bobcat last year and so used stucco wire on this tractor .. which is much stronger and heavier than regular chicken wire even though it looks much the same.

okiedrifter, sorry but we just measured the distance between the rows for the 2ft width and we only had 3 10ft boards so we made an A frame. We had some metal left from a shed and used since we didn't have any plywood and am glad we did since it gets wet a lot with the garden irrigation. The wire is stucco wire, just like chicken wire except it is a heavier weight wire and is much stronger than chicken wire.... My son and I discussed putting a wire bottom in it, but finally decided not to, as we want digging. Right now its between two pole bean rows and they do like the leaves if the wind blows any close...
the water fount is inside hanging from the top rafter to keep it off the ground. As for feed I only give them a couple of hand fulls of feed a day tossed in so they will be encouraged to scratch a lot. All our chickens are good free range types and they dig all the time. I've got two wyandotte and two copper marans in there right now and last week we had sussex in there and got our first egg this year.
