My uncle tells me that there is a tiller with a free sign on it near his house. I say "Let's check it out". I go across town and this is what I found. FREE. The engine spins. The tines aren't locked up. As you can see the rope won't retract. It needs a cable. I'll have to do some research to see who made these.[/

Very nice find! Those are great for keeping up the garden during the season. In a pinch, they'll do for breaking ground, but tougher on the machine. For that matter I've broken ground with a cultivator attachment on the end of a weed whacker. Course the wheels and handles are a little easier on the back. Can you show us another pic when you've got it back in action? Huh, huh, can you......please?

TX I'll post some pics when I get it going. Knowing me, It could be this month or it could be next year. As a matter of fact DLD we did put them out so the guy that tills it would know where we wanted the garden. We use those to mark our pit spot when we go racing. I need to clean the garage.

I was walking home from down the road and saw a free sign. It was just a fishing pole but out here on an island, they come in handy, sure is nice to pick up spares. This one was only worth about $50, had a nice reel but my son took only five minutes to repair it as good as new. He found a free riding lawnmower on the island a while back, got it running and then the starter went out on it. Found out the parts were too expensive so he is scrapping the idea of fixing it again. There a lots of free things put out around here...best to keep your eyes open? They give away cars too. Rather than having them hauled off...

The starter blew up on my welder (16 HP 2 cylinder onan, very similar to what a lot of riding mowers have[the gear caught and overspun the motor blowing the commutator to bits]) I discovered new ones cost almost as much as I paid for the whole welder. so I adapted a small automobile engine starter to start it. That's the welder that I bought with a smashed piston rod, so I melted all the broken parts and recast the rod, (using the good one for a pattern) machined it on my antique lathe, and put it back together. Been using it ever since.

My buddy two doors down works for a LARGE metal scrap yard. They basically melt down the scrap into bricks and sell them off to various countries. Anywho... he comes home with cool stuff all the time. People drop of working snow blowers, working leaf blowers, perfectly good bikes, etc. Crazy! ;D

I hate to suggest this, but some of those things may have been "borrowed without permission" to be sold for cash. I had that happen once when I guy asked about some scrap beside my house. He also helped himself to my son's new bicycle!
But of course, there are others who clean out estates or downsize to apartments that don't know what else to do with items they no longer need. What's one man's junk is.....
