I wasn't really ready to, but it had a blemish spot on it that was showing signs of growing into a molded area . . . so, I plucked it and used it for tonight's supper. overall, it was crisp and moist. A thin wall, but not too thin. It was slightly bitter, as it needed more time, but since I used it as a seasoning, no notice to that. Yay me! My first pepper picked of the season! How about you? Any peppers picked?

Hi, Silverpaloma. Welcome to NJT! I've seen a couple tiny peppers emerging. Give me a couple months. What kind of pepper did you pick and where are you growing? john

I just picked my first ripe peppers yesterday - those superchilis, as always. And I made some salsa fresca with that, some tomatoes, a shallot, and some cilantro (the last ing. the only one not from the garden). That stuff is sooooo good! A friend and I had this on some tacos, and the leftover we just wrapped up in the corn tortillas and finished it off. I almost forget how good it is with those fresh ingredients...yet so simple.
I'll take some photos today when I uncover my pepper tunnel...

The only peppers ready to pick under the cover were the jalapeños, and boy were they ready! One of the three plants looked stunted, and had no full sized peppers (though it had a generous number on it), but the other two were incredible! This photo is just from those two, and there were 4 more, which I used for dinner, plus many others not ready to be picked! There were hundreds more of all the others, but most are meant to be harvested ripe, so I have to wait a little longer.

Started dehydrating the first peppers for spice mix this evening. Lots of Cayenne and Jalapenos. Some Chinese 5-color and Habanero del Arbol. Oughta give us a little spicier mix than last year did.
Dang drought really slowed down production. I should be on 2nd or 3rd round of dehydrating by now.

Bacon-wrapped grilled poppers are in your future! That sounds great, and I'll have to try that sometime! This time I made a 2 qt jar of jalapeños en escabeche, with those and the few red peppers I had at the time. This is one of those wasy to make quick pickles, that you store in the fridge, and is a great thing to always have on hand. Today I harvested a bunch of ripe peppers, which I will let ripen further, then dehydrate. Next weekend the cover will come off of the tunnel for good, and a bunch of peppers are ripening under there already, so by then, I will have a bunch more to pick. These today are all from uncovered peppers, and most are from 3 superchili plants.
