Ciao all- I received seeds for several Asian eggplants from our dear Erwin (adobo) in the Philippines this winter. I spent a bit of time whittling that list down to three: Thai White Egg, Lao Purple, and Kermit Oblong. I wanted some smaller Asian types for stir-fries and grilling. My Italian mainstays are fairly large and don't lend themselves as well for skewering. I use them more for Eggplant Parmesana, Fritti, and large grilled slices for big sandwiches. I've already used the Kermit Oblong in shish kebabs and they worked very well. All three types were grown in containers and they've performed much higher than expected. Right now, all of the plants are so loaded, the branches are weighed down with fruit, despite the fruit being small as hen's eggs in some cases. You've done a beautiful job, Sorellina. I've had eggplant (in ground) since early March, and mine aren't that lush - even down here in Texas. Actually, mine are ragged and stressed from excessive heat and wind, not to mention that we still have no rain!! But I have picked a fair amount of eggplant.
I'm surprised how lovely the foliage is with the pots sitting in the pool of water. I have never tried that thinking the roots would rot. Something new to try, next go-round.
Thanks for the photos.
