Well, specific to "Pumpkins", I'm looking and breeding for primarily, shape. The "ideal" pumpkin in my mind, is oblate, (fat and squatty, not upright) well and deeply ribbed, in a rich and vibrant shade of orange, possessing a study and lasting handle. Average weight would be in the 20-30 lb. range. The vines would be resistant to various maladies, (fungal and insects), and if I could also make said pumpkin excellent tasting, that would make it perfect in my mind. Can't find anything currently offered, so I'm trying to create my own, through selection and genetics. Regards, Kevin1962

I look for something productive and early enough for my zone, with great taste I can talk about to customers. Having a lot of accolades in womens' magazines helps too. Shouldnt be too big.

Sounds like an orange colored moschata instead of tan. hmmm Precisely. That is what I'm aiming for. Think Musquee De Provence, only dark, vivid orange. I'm currently gathering various types of pumpkin varieties that possess these characteristics. My problem lies in the fact that getting a C. Moschata X C. Pepo cross, does not take. I've got much yet to learn, but I'll get there. Regards, Kevin1962

MdP is buff colored and slightly larger than the orange/red RVdT. It meets all your criteria, with the exception of diseases and insects - here in Texas, I only had one small one in '09 - it grew poorly in our hot fall and the vines were attacked by squash bugs. www.google.com/search?hl=en&sugexp=kjrmc&cp=8&gs_id=1k&xhr=t&q=rouge+vif+d%27etampes&gs_sm=&gs_upl=&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.,cf.osb&biw=797&bih=387&um=1&ie=UTF-8&tbm=isch&source=og&sa=N&tab=wi Early this spring, I had no male blossoms on my Black Futsu (moschata), but plenty male Rampicante (pepo). They crossed beautifully. I've saved a few seeds for spring of the cross just for fun. Should be interesting: mini-mouse x goliath.

Thanks Izzy, However, I've grown the Rouge Vif d'tampes, and it's too flat for my taste. The color was also, in my opinion, a bit too reddish orange. Still, I appreciate your recommendations!
Have a nice evening, Kevin
