One of the more elegant second uses reccomended on this site has to be to re-use to-go trays (with clear lids) as wintersowing vessles. Its weakest link has been (for me) to reduce wind from blowing them around.

Flats can go flying because they're not heavy enough to stay put. The usual culprit is that the soil doesn't have enough moisture--water adds weight, typically a quart of water weighs a pound, so just adding a cup or two may be enough to keep them in place.

You're right, so that's even better. Sad that I can't remeber basic proportions anymore, but high school was 35 years ago. Egad! Thank you for the info--it is helpful.
