Our local fruit market was out of the Tart Cherry Juice Concentrate for awhile. Today I bit the bullet and picked up two at $24 each, a 50% total increase since the crazy March weather.

what were you paying before the increase Strat? I think the last time I bought concentrate it was about $20? I just checked online for our local source and they don't even list it this year?

Something that is a little pricy but effective is Cetyl-M. They have it for horses, dogs and people. I used it on a very old horse (even my farrier was extremely impressed with the difference in that horse - and he ended up having about 4 more comfortable years), and am currently using it on a dog with such extreme hip dysplasia/arthritis the vet doesn't know how he walks around...yet this dog will run and play. I have not tried in personally, but I may need to start before too long. The results will start fairly quickly...within a week. Definitely price shop for it, and you'll most likely need to order it online. One place that consistently has good prices is www.jefferspet.com. (I haven't priced shopped their human versions, but horse and dog prices are good.)

I stopped buying Tart Cherry Juice Concentrate a year ago when I looked on the bottle and the new brand comes from Turkey. I continued to take Tart Cherry in capsule form. Last month, I checked out Swanson Vitamins and purchased Organic Tart Cherry Juice Concentrate at $20 for 32 oz. equivalent. Sign up for their email list and get free shipping offers, etc. Last week I was in the fruit market and they were still carrying the Turkish Tart Cherry Juice Concentrate at $28. Must be older stock since we've gone through another successful cherry growing season here in Michigan. I really expected to see the local product on the shelf.

The other day, I was at the fruit market picking up bananas. The Turkish Tart Cherry Juice Concentrate went up to $30. In two years from $16 to $30! I just stocked up on Swanson; 3-qt equivalent.

This month, the fruit market finally has domestic tart cherry juice concentrate at $30 for a quart. On Monday, I got in on a sale at Swanson for $16 a quart. I stocked up on four quarts with free shipping.

A randomized, double-blind crossover study was done in 2013 that looked at the efficacy of tart cherry juice in treatment of osteoarthritis of the knee. Results were symptom relief BUT no greater than placebo. The one thing it was proven to do was to lower hsCRP levels. C-reactive protein levels rise in the blood in response to acute inflammation. Osteoarthritis is not an inflammatory condition; it is degenerative. The "itis" in the name is a misnomer. Rheumatoid arthritis is a true inflammatory arthritis.
What cherry juice concentrate (tart or sweet) HAS been proven to do is to significantly reduce the frequency of acute gout attacks in patients who have gout.

I forgot to add the most important thing! I love cherry juice. And if I were taking cherry juice and felt that I had benefits from it, I would continue to enjoy it no matter what randomized double blind clinical trials said. If it was rotten tomato juice that I was taking though, I would seize upon that research as an excuse to stop!

on a different note... do you ever experience numbness in your hands from playing gtr? A couple weeks back, I'd been playing a lot more than normal (rehearsals and such for an extra performance we had) and found my left hand getting a little numb. When it did, i just took some time to stretch a bit and that seemed to do the trick. You ever deal with that? Any remedies? Yeah, I've experienced some numbness, tingling, pain in my fretting hand over the years. Did lots of shaking my hand in between numbers. I called my brother tonight and he has used RICE-Rest Ice Compression Elevation-on his guitar hand with success when it messed up. For the last two months, I've been rehearsing guitar loads. I play lots of short sessions with a little rest in between. My hands are doing OK. In the spring when I'm planting loads of tomato, pepper and flower starts, I usually wake up mornings with numb hands. Not much guitar playing then; rest those hands. Unless I'm practicing bottleneck...

W8in, I'm surprised that a Michigander like you isn't taking Sour Cherry Concentrate?? Yes, there is 20g of sugar in a 750ml/26oz bottle, but it's health benefits far outweigh the cons. One tablespoon of concentrate is equivalent to between 45 and 60 cherries. I love cherries, but that's a lot of chewing.... I think you should give up that statin drug and pick up some MI raised Montmorency cherry juice concentrate!

I will look for the Cherry Juice! I am intolerant to sugar tho, if it has natural sugar thats one thing. But I am also intolerant to corn, so it cannot have corn syrup.

Hi Blue, nice to see you! I was paying $16 in March before the two price increases up to $24. Grrrr. Strat, $24 seems cheap to me now. I just paid $32 for a bottle. Still, if it works for Hubs, the price is not important. Are you still taking Boswellia?? Didn't work for hubs unfortunately. Now he's back to the cherry concentrate and starting tomorrow, a wheat free diet for a two month trial. Inflammation markers are through the roof so we went to a Naturopathic Doctor to see if his recommendations would make any difference. Time will tell. But I like the natural options far more than NSAIDS and pharmaceuticals that have done nothing but eat at the pocketbook.
OH, and one of the older posts on this thread suggested a teaspoon as a dose? That seems low? Any I've ever bought have recommended the dose as two Tablespoons in an 8 oz glass of water. The dilution makes it a little less tart on the tongue.
Wishing you all less pain and happier days ahead.

Hi, bluelacedredhead. I'm still taking Boswellia along with Tart Cherry Juice Concentrate liquid and the capsules. As much as I've been using my hands gardening, working in the yard and especially practicing/playing guitar, they're in better shape than they were a few years ago. Knock on wood. Two tablespoons is the dose on my Swanson's Organic Tart Cherry Juice Concentrate. I put a splash in my green tea in the morning. It's an organic product with the regular price at $10/pint=$20/qt. I'm on their email list and I stock up during sales. Sometimes, there's a 20% or 25% off sale.

DLD-This is an everyday routine. I mentioned on the first page that I also take Glucosamine Chondroitin for my knees with success. I'm sure all of this adds up to make my hands hurt less even though I'm using them more. Good luck!

Thanks for the help stratcat, but now when it comes to my knees that's a different story, had complete knee surgery on my right knee about 2 or 3 years ago and now they want me to have it done on the left one so they are just gonna ache especially with my job of having to walk up and down bus steps all the time.

stratcat , that is good news. Hubs quit taking the Glucosamine/Chondroitin. It did nothing for him. He's back on Cherry juice, but it's only been a few weeks so no real change in his pain levels yet. Time will tell. He's also been prescribed a Homeopathic remedy. We are hoping and praying that this will give him some relief from his Chronic pain and Inflammation. His quality of life continues to deteriorate and it's tough to see him this way.

Also the weather is getting nicer hopefully that will help him also. I hate taking pills! so taking a juice is like music to my ears! I had a big play house fall on me and had to have leg and knee surgery , took bone out of my hip to rebuild my knee. Some bionic stuff in there also down my leg and such so it's gunna hurt. But this is the first year it's hurt this bad. It is crooked and that doesn't help. Walking alot sometimes hurts it because it is crooked. Sometime i'm just thankful I can walk. But I have to keep moving. I'm afraid of the don't use it lose it saying!

W8in, that sounds terribly painful as well. I hope that Montmorency Juice will help alleviate some of your pain. Besides, it's tasty!
Thanks for your thoughts.
