www.durgan.org/URL/?ZLDZE 15 September 2010 Viking Potatoes Harvested The Viking is a beautiful white tuber. The yield per plant is low in number, but the tubers are quite large. This is a welcome addition to any garden. The yield is 33 pounds from nine plants.

I grew Viking potatoes last year and had a problem with them having large splits in them. The splits had healed over and did not affect the flavor, which was wonderful. Any idea on the cause of the splitting?

I have had this happen also, not with the variety you were using, mine were Adirondack blue, which I have grown since with no problem . I'm not sure but I think that season when mine split I wasn't watering quite so much as I should have been.

I have been asking my potato growing friends about your split spuds, they are all telling me its inconsistent watering is whats to blame ,pretty much what I did a few years ago, hope that helps you out.

Vikings are one of my favorites! I have had great success with them so far.
