Now I've been in up to my compression stockings, with access issues, for a while. Mostly I like This Old House, because while it doesn't often point out how it builds with universal access or 'visitability', in mind, it most does build visitability into its remodels.
Untill you get to the garden and raised beds. Of the two most recent; one was so tall, cumbersome, and expencive to build that I doubt if any PWD could aford one.
And if they got it, would be unable to make use of it due to its hight.
The most recent raised bed has a skirt of pea gravel, that no walking aide, scooter, chair, or cart-seat could navigate through.
How should you build your garden? I would cheerfuly encourage the builder and the PWD try the mediums they're gonna drive through, parking lots are often good (free) trials of the stuff your chair, walker or garden seat is supposed to drive through.
A mock-up bed set out of cardboard boxes onna drive way will let you test both bed spacing and bed hights.
