Cold season is here and for sore throats I make a fresh ginger tea and start drinking this as soon as I feel it coming on. Thinly slice unpeeled fresh ginger, about a handful to 2 or 3 cups of water in a saucepan. Bring just to a simmer and cook about 10 min. Strain into a cup and add honey to taste if desired. You have to adjust strength to your heat level as this can be quite spicy. As you sip it try to hold it to the back of your throat, you get a wonderful "burn" that is very soothing. I've completely knocked down a sore within a few hours by doing this. You can keep adding water to the pan of ginger and simmer a few times til it becomes too weak and you need to start with fresh ginger. I've found it is cheaper to buy at ethnic markets than the local chain groceries.

i get rid of the pain by killing the cause. a strong broth of onion and garlic with the right salt levels for electrolytes, and then tea of echinacea and astragalus for my immune system (echinacea when you are sick, astragalus all the time.), but also with oregano and thyme which help prevent it from spreading and kill alot themselves. i will put habanero hot sauce in a shot of lemon juice and sip on that to warm up my throat and get rid of the free-loaders. wild cherry bark is very important to keep a sore throat in check, and siberian elm, in place of something like slippery elm which is poached to near extinction, for new clean mucus production.

I float a sage leaf in a cup of black tea, when I have a sore throat. It takes the pain away within minutes. I hardly notice the flavor of the sage in my cup of Irish black tea. Three cups per day, at regular intervals, will cure my sore throat within 1-2 days. Gargling with green tea will kill any nasty germs in the throat. Gargling with an alcohol-based mouthwash is not a healthy thing to do. It is especially bad for people who smoke, leads to mouth and throat cancers.

Whatever will boost the immune system and/or kill the germs will hit the cause. The ginger and hot pepper is increasing the circulation in the area, and that brings in extra germ killing white blood cells to attack the bad bugs. Onion, garlic, golden seal, etc; will kill the bugs directly. A combination of all of them will really give em an army to fight against, the bag bugs will have a hard time winning. Especially if all refined food is eliminated from the diet and replaced with fresh raw food and juices. Refined food products are immune depressors.
