Hi there!
Like many out there, since our country decided that our ozone is more important that the majority of asthma sufferers being able to breath (instead of changing hair sprays and other propellants first), the new rescue inhalers are doing next to nothing! Sometimes it even makes the attack worse.
As someone who lives in a hot humid climate which triggers my asthma quite frequently (I'm sucking on my rescue inhaler 7+ times a day), my life has been ~drastically~ altered by this.
Back before people were stupid with ephedra, the Chinese herb - ma huang- was readily available. And VERY effective with helping relieve asthma all together. Since that has been pulled, I have yet to find an comparable alternative.
I do NOT like otc meds and will only take them as a last resort. Does anyone have any suggestions on herbs, tinatures, or foods that actually help reduce asthma attacks that are not caused by sinus allergies?
Have a wonderful day everyone! ~Melody

they sell coca tea legally online. other than that i would recommend sage, thyme, cedar, eucalyptus, marshmallow, licorice, and osha for your lungs and bronchi. wild cherry bark keeps your throat clean and helps clear mucus. sage and thyme have constituents that are toxic in addition to reducing inflammation, so its better to keep them down to tea packet sized doses. the resin of cedar can accumulate in your kidneys if you use too much. very little is needed to suppress cough.

Dehydration is a major culprit in asthma attacks. Chewing two Altoid peppermint tablets gives a burst of peppermint which will open the bronchial tubes. If I feel an asthma attack starting, I drink a large glass of water. If that doesn't get the attack under control, I chew two Altoids. I have not had to use an inhaler. I carry Altoids with me, the way other asthmatics carry inhalers.
Nice to see you, BP! I still invoke Reiki on your behalf during my daily Reiki practice.

Going on the "Eat Right For Your Blood Type" diet is what helped me. More specifically on that diet...giving up wheat products like pasta and breads. The main culprit for me is pasta. So I guess it is a gluten allergy that causes me to have asthma. It takes me about two weeks on a total non-gluten diet to clear up all the asthma symptoms.

lobelia is supposed to be able to completely cure asthma, although I never had occasion to try it on anyone. But it's a slightly rough treatment. Best option might be using something made by Dr Schulze, his preparations are very powerful.

Melody, there is still one company that makes the old pressurized inhalers, but you have to ask for it and sometimes your doctor has to order that particular one. Wally World Pharmacy here in Tucson gets it for me. I also got a small nebulizer and a 12v converter that will work in my pickup or on the tractor. I ordered it from Amazon and you have to crunch the numbers to be sure the converter will handle the watts used by the nebulizer and if it is close it has trouble working, so be sure and have 10 or 15 more watts than it says. Hope this helps, I know it is not natural, but some of us have it too severe to be controlled by milder methods. If you have had it all your life, you know, but if it is new and can't be controlled otherwise, then the post by dogwoman is right on, if you aren't getting the rest for your body to heal each night that is also a problem. If things have changed drastically when it started getting worse look for small things, but if you moved, have new job... etc. try and avoid your triggers.. good luck dear my prayers are for you. My family has it in various degrees through the generations .. and I now have two grandkids with it, much to my and grandma's saddness. Asthma is why we moved from Oklahoma to Arizona when we first got married about 50years ago. Sad about leaving all our family, but best move we ever made. We don't go back to Oklahoma to visit during the summer months.
edit: wanted to mention another thing. the latest medications work great for me and one of our grandkids. Singular (no side effects) Asthmacort. These newer ones don't cause hypertension and sometimes make for a much better life.
