My brother mistakenly planted broccoli where he intended brussel sprouts .... which turned out to be quite a tasty error! I went down to check one of my hives and took a shortcut through the garden -- and had a couple of broccoli florets as a snack! I think that there is steamed broccoli on tonight's menu .....

I've never had a lot of luck with broccoli and it takes up a lot of space for what you get. I just heard of a "leaf broccoli" which apparently grows like collards producing only leaves which taste like broccoli. It's called spigarello and is grown widely in Italy, a generous gardener on another forum is sharing seeds with me and I'm looking forward to trying it. Probably too late to plant now as it's a cool weather veg but will plant in the fall.

Probably too late to plant now as it's a cool weather veg but will plant in the fall. I planted spigarello in December - thinking it needed cool temps. It came up fine, but grew little. Now that temps are getting warmer it's beginning to take off. Our days are warm, nights cool and it's starting to look happy. It could also be that we've had heavy sea fog most of the winter, and needed bright sunlight. It'll be interesting to see how it does in the next month, as our temps will quickly rise now. Hope to get a taste before it bolts.
