I live in middle tn zone 7a, it is now Christmas eve, and I have my thoughts on starting cabbage transplants via seed. I do winter sowing in gallon jugs but never tried cabbage. I was wondering when (if not now) to sow cabbage seed to have transplants by late feb.? I would like to wintersow in gallon jugs outside, but I do have a place inside if need be. any suggestions from the cabbage experts? thanks Errol

Cabbage is a cole crop. I think (with out ever having tried cabbage) it would be an ideal candidate for winter sowing.
Your "oh my gosh its germinated", and you believe the night time temperatures will be too cold is down in the thirties (unlike WS tomato).
If I had the space to plant cabbage to field, I might try WS-ing some.

Cabbage needs 5-7 weeks from sowing to planting. I keep mine indoors but then we are colder than you. Check out www.sampleseeds.com. Remy is an expert on winter sowing and is very good about answering questions. Nice lady and a good source for seeds, too.
