Does anyone here use one of these, how much room do you need for it?

I do teepees on the posts in the rows, with a single center post, and a dozen or more baling twine legs for the beans to climb. They end up being oval shaped, as the beds are only 4' wide, and I try to put 30 to 40 plants to a teepee. Make sure your center post is strong enough, or you will have a mess when it snaps in the wind. This one snapped off a week after the picture was taken. It can look pretty impressive if you mix them through the garden rows. These teepees range from 7' to 12' in height.

Excellent free source is available right now but only for a short time. They are Christmas trees! Strip the boughs off and you've got a nice rough pole that the vines can get a good grip on. I've got well over 100 and use 4 per tepee. Space taken up would be about 9 square feet when set in place as a square at legs 3' apart.

That's a grand idea ,some thing to think about next year. where would you get discarded trees? I haven't seen any trees out for pick up in this town, would it be the land fill? I grow mine on cattle panels which have been concreted into the ground in my veg plot.

If there isn't any municipal chipping or pickup for trees, people have to take them somewhere. That's where you'll find them. I think that just about every state has laws against disposing of them in land fills. In my city, crew comes through with a chipper and reduces them to bits right on the spot. If anyone wants the chips for mulch, 5-yard load will be delivered free. Lots of trees out now and I've already got a few. Mainly looking for white pine right now. Don't really need any more but I want the boughs and needles to shred to acidify potato ground. I can always use the trunks for something else.

I use 16 ft cattle panels arched and held in place with a couple metal t-posts. i currently have 50 panels and have long tunnels. I plant a double row on each side and when ready for harvest beans hang down on inside of tunnel from about the 9:00 and 3:00 area, plus the beans make pretty good shade to rest inside tunnel lol. Panels usuall run 19 dollars or so so over the years i just buy a few here and there along the way.
