Hey all!
I've had arthritis for a few years in my hands, but it seems to be getting worse. It's also in my lower back and knees. I still like to garden, but bending over is not too easy. I've decided to get rid of the dead lawn in my backyard and plant succulents instead.
Good idea?
(I've enlisted the help of my non-arthritic brother for help in pulling up the grass) =D

It depends on what you like in the yard. So, yes it could be fine.
If you find a Canadian crutch(s) at a yard or church sale look at the over the arm brace part as something to improve your grip on tools. Repurposing may result...

Have you considered raised beds. Bending and leaning cause my knees to hurt. I use raised beds, with fishing stools to sit on. They are about the correct height and can help you go straight up without leaning. I also anchor T-posts around the bed which I use to pull myself up. Hope this helps.

Sounds like a great idea! Be careful which ones you choose. Some succulents are quite invasive! lol...I found that out when, after one one season, I had Mother Of 1000 babies growing in half of my plants.

Years ago, I was gifted a couple of strap-like things, like a belt with a buckle kinda, made from soft expanded foam and flexible. Wrapped and tightened, around forearm, and even the upper arm, allows me to pull weeds for hours, with no pain/swelling in hands, I also use the carpal tunnel wrist braces with the metal rod in them. If there is a will, there is a way. No idea where these can be purchased, other than, maybe the medical supply store...

We used to build raised beds, and raised Planters with wide paths in places for wheel chair users. Now I'm disabled myself, I've got Rheumatoid Arthritis and I have a Paralyzed forearm after a fall last year., so my Gardening is controlled by what I am able to do. I'm lucky enough to have my dear Hubby who tolerates me delegating jobs. lol. Gardening should be a pleasure, and having been on both sides of the situation, I think you should make it as easy as possible for yourself.
