I heard a rumor Woo is working on a new dining adventure--Turtle soup.
Turtle is one I have never butchered or cooked (but have eaten).
I liked turtle soup the one time I tried it.
Untill somebody can tell me snapper-turtles are endangered, I can't think of a better thing to do with them.
Go for it Woo!

coppice, I couldn't agree with you more... About 30 years ago my hubby's son and my daughter were playing in the woods and we saw the son sort of floating in are and the daughter laughing her head off. We went over to see and the son was standing on the snapper taking a ride. They were both 14 and old enough but still it was very dangerous. The first thing that hubby thought of was, there is dinner.
He dressed it and the next day we had braised Myrtle The Turtle. The next day we had Myrtle Soup.
After that we had turtle when ever we could catch them. Haven't had any in recent years.

FWIW a snapper is a carnivore. It also will not ever let go of what it bites, ever. As waretrop implies these beasties like things like chicks.
I'm not sure there is anything other than man what eat them.
If we are stuards of this creation, sometimes we have to do recycling...

Woo the top one is a snapper. The bottom looks to be a box.
Box turtles breed slower and are mostly vegetarian.
Eat the snappers.
