What kind of peas do you grow? I grow the Dwarf Telephone peas we grew when I was a kid and I save seed from them. From saved seed I grew Blauwschokkers last year because Sorellina mentioned the bicolor flowers had fragrance and they did! Found a couple Blauwschokkers volunteer vines on 6 October, 2010, and tied them up. Here are a couple pics of them on 9 October and one from 30 October with a pea.

I simply don't know when or where to plant peas so they will get to grow well. Since my gardening is focused on growing tomatoes and I've heard these two don't like growing next to each other , I simply had to give up peas. Has anyone grown these two together with any success? If I could do that, I would definitely grow more peas as I love eating the fresh seeds while they are still young. I don't like them cooked though

I've grown Sugar Snap and Super Sugar Snap. The flavor is better with the original, IMO. I grow them on the same trellises as my tomatoes, squashes and cucumbers. The peas are just about done for the spring when the other vegetables get big enough to for the peas to be in the way. I could probably double crop on my tomato cages if I ever got those areas prepped early enough.

I don't like them cooked though Peas like to be planted in a sunny spot that drains well as soon as the soil can be worked in the spring. I use my hand cultivator to work up a small area to plant. An inoculant may be used to increase yields but I usually haven't treated my seed. Last year I crammed two small pea patches in amongst my tomatoes and I didn't notice any problem. I prefer eating my peas fresh, as well. Is that Amaranth growing next to it? Yes, that's Elephant Head Amaranth.

Here's Sugar Magnolia Purple Snap Pea from Alan Kapuler on 29 August, 2008. This one has edible pods and bicolor flowers. Quite an attractive specimen.
