The wife is a day sleeper as she works nights as a CNA, and is having problems sleeping, is there something that you would recommend to make help her sleep better!

Black out curtains, duck tape over every power light on any electronics in the bedroom

If she snores, a sleep study. A c-pap sure helped me.

The wife is a day sleeper as she works nights as a CNA, and is having problems sleeping, is there something that you would recommend to make help her sleep better! How long has she been on the nite shift? sounds like a question for www.Ask.com or some other site. What keeps her awake? Noise? Light? I feel for her as I could never adjust to a change in schedule like that. Tried the usual remedies.? I had trouble sleeping or falling asleep awhile back...(demons in the head as I had some issues that were rattling around in my brain...not ready to go postal but they kept me from falling asleep for awhile one fall. I went to the drug store and got some over the counter sleep aids...I think the pills I took were like 50mg (or took two 25mg). They helped me to fall asleep and then I went into a normal sleep. I handled the issues or they just went away and after a few of weeks I didn't need them. May be something like that will help;?

Oh, if she might be starting or is going through the "change", hormone levels may need to be checked. Sleep will never be the same.

I did shift work for 15 years. Our company did a sleep study and besides the room darkening suggestions, what helped me was take a warm/hot shower about 1/2 hour before going to bed, eat a light breakfast and read a little bit before trying to sleep. I had no problem with lights or noises except chain saws. Turn off the telephone so that doesn't interrupt the sleep. Get into a pattern just like a night sleeper does. Same time to bed and same time awake. They said the shift she works makes a big difference. Getting off any time before 4A.M. or after 9 a.m. is bad for sleeping soundly. Changing from days to nights and back again during a month is not a good idea. Keep the same schedule works best. Good luck.

Run a fan, or get a "white noise" machine. Helps to block out sounds.

If she's using caffeine to stay awake at night, it may be having a carryover effect in the morning when she tries to sleep. Have her avoid caffinated coffee, soda, and tea, as well as chocolate 6-8 hours before going to bed.
Also, if a person eats sweets right before bed, their sugar goes up--for a while--then when it drops it can trigger the hunger cycle; the person's body says 'get up and FEED ME!' A protein based snack like peanut butter crackers may be better...breaks down and digests more slowly, so the sugar levels rise and fall much more gradually.
And give wifey a hug/kiss from me--I'm a night shift nurse, so I know exactly how hard she works for her money, and the crap she has to put up with from some patients, families, administration and some coworkers.

We keep Melatonin in our medicine chest. It's a little pill, all natural, and available where you buy your vitamins. Fairly inexpensive too. Non-addictive, and you don't feel groggy in the morning after taking it.

Thanks everyone for all the help and suggestions, we think it's because of the packing and moving and trying to get into a new house, really none of us are getting a real good sleep, but it's the month of May, so we will be moving alot more this month and maybe life will get back to normal soon!
