What can I do with them, can I plant them. I cut one open and it looked like it was full of seeds.

From my understanding, we can ferment and dry the potato seed like we do tomato seeds. Start the potato seed indoors and set out the plants. Most likely you'll come up with new varieties from planting potato seed.

Yes, treat TPS (True Potato Seed) like tomato seed. It is a good way to step outside of some disease vectors in potato.

Well I feel ignorant now, what does ferment the seed mean. Should I say how do I do it and when do I pick the little 'fruits'?

Well I feel ignorant now, what does ferment the seed mean. Should I say how do I do it and when do I pick the little 'fruits'? The fruit likes to drop off. Pick 'em when they do or when they come off plant easily. Fermenting TPS Cut open fruit and add a little water, the fruit will soften and scum will form ina couple days. Mash them (gently with a spoon) and add extra water, viable seeds will sink and rind and non-viable seed will float. Pour off deaders and rind and add water and repeat till all you have is seed in the bottom of your bowl or pail. I scoop out seed onto a coffee filter on a paper plate and dry seeds on that. Take your time drying seed, fully dry seed keeps better. I don't do it exactly the same way Tom Wagner does, he's the expert. His threads on TPS and tatermater seeds have been a mainstay for this kind of seed saving for years.
