Do you still get to come up to mid-Michigan to your place? Yes we still have our place in Harrison. We were there when the big storm hit a couple of months ago, we were out of electricity for 66 hrs. We decided just to leave after about 64 hrs. And say it is what it is. But as we were packing up and cleaning up. The electric came back on, so were able to do dishes before we left. We went up Christmas day. Stayed up there 4 days or so. I got do do some Ice fishing Didn't get nothing but I got to go!

Yeah, that's the place. We saw Johnny Cash and Faith Hill play at the fair in Harrison in 1996. Fun! Sounds like you were up the day I was getting my appendix out and those storms blew through. Our power was off about 48 hours. In the mid-1980s, I played in the band at a couple joints; Airport Lounge and Snowbird Lanes. Are they still there? I've only fished once out on Townline Lake at Dodge City. I caught one Rock Bass with a red eye that looked like the Son of Godzilla. Occasionally, I get out to Gladwin to snowshoe with my brother, but I haven't yet this winter. Looks like there will be lots of opportunity in the next few months.

Yes the Airport bar is still there been thru a few new owners, but looks like they may have a good one one, See a few cars in there now ... Happy thats working out for them and yes the Snowbird lanes about the same thing, went thru a few owners, there was a killing there or something and now someone eles took it over and making it more of a family place. We went fishing at George Lake last time we were up, but have fished at Long lake. We like to take a lil drive to Haskel Lake but have never fished there. We drive thru Gladwin when we go to Normans in Standish. Sadly they are closing! But not before I bought me a pair of RedWing rubber insulated boots for 60 bucks. But have never made it to Snowshoe, I want to !! But usually we are about done and drive right by on the way home. We are actually not to far from airport bar. Well not walking distance but not too far our cabin is on Cherokee. I am sure if you look on a map you will see it. It's fun stuff! Love it up there! I hope to get up there soon. Like um when we thaw out lol.

Yep, I was surprised Norman's is closing. I walk by all the time, but I've never shopped there. My house is about four blocks away. I've never been inside the Casino, either.

Ohhh my! You had never been in Normans? I don't know what were going to do! We used to get everyones Xmas presents there. But Hey at least I got my boots 1st. And just in the nic of time , because then the weather turned B A D D D!! Lol but we really do love it up north! I don't know what we are going to do. Find another store to go to hmmmmm. We are not Casino people. I have a lil story. We went to a favorite lil Pizza place one time (Before I got sick) And the owner Bev said Wendy come to the Casino with me and Brian. I said if you can get Dave to give me $$ I will go, She said Dave give wendy $$ So she can come to the Casino with us. He handed me 100.00 bucks!! So I went. Drank one 5 dollar beer stood and did some people watching. Then when they were done we went out to eat. Brian payed for that. Got home at like 5 am Dave said well?? How much money did you win? I said 0 , He said how much do you have left? I said 95.00 He stuck his hand out to get the money back. I said ohhh no! You gave me 100. bucks I'll be dammed if I was going to lose it at the casino. So I had 95.00 I can people watch for 100.00

I enjoyed your casino story. In the late 60s and early 70s, I shopped at Norman's in Bay City; think velour socks. In the late 80s, I walked through Norman's in East Tawas just to check it out. Think parachute pants and plastic girls shoes. The only time I set foot in the Standish Norman's was back in '93 when my bass player needed a pair of tennis shoes because he was going away. Did you ever get to shop at Mill End in Gladwin before all the stores closed? Heavy flannel shirts, etc. East Tawas and Bad Axe had Mill End, but the main store was in Bay City and it had lots of outdoor gear, leather, fabric, foam, miscellaneous...

No we didn't get to shop at mill end nag dab it! Sounds like my kind of place tho !! The other place we were turned on to is called "Ebels" It is a home town store. It is a general store, an old fashioned store, it is really cool! They have some great sales on meat, not too far from where we are at. They are in Falmouth Mi. Let me see if they have a .com ebelsgeneralstore.com/Love that place! Have you ever been there? Altho they wanted 50 bucks for a flannel , I won't pay that lol but their meat counter is really great! And they are in cow country! I think thats why they have such great deals. Funny about parachute pants LOL

Hi, w8in. Yeah, parachute pants. "I've never worn parachute pants." No, I've never heard of Ebels General Store. I checked out their site and looked up their location. Looks like they're out past Lake City. It's been decades since I've been out that way. I'm in the market for flannel, but not for 5O bucks! Around 1983, I stopped in at an old general store out in Hersey, Michigan. It was located between Reed City and Big Rapids and had been there for a long time. I was on a road trip and picked up a qt. of beer after looking around. Fun. Wikipedia (yeah, I know) says the Hersey General Store opened in 1869 and burned on Labor Day, 2008. Darn.

Ughhh Darn!! I was gunna head there!! Yea we will not pay 50 bucks for a flannel but do like Ebels meat counter WoW! Steves Market in Harrison has a wonderful meat counter also. There steaks OMG are about 1 1/2 thick! I couldn't get butchers around here to cut steaks that thick. They have a great meat counter. But they are a grocery store only. I am going to have to google Old Stores in Mi. Lol
