This is one of my dogs "Rudder". She is a mutt dog but looks like a lot of husky in her (tail and coat). She is a rescue dog who when we got her already had the front right leg removed and the back right leg pinned so she can only move it at the hip. The back leg works as a kick stand (almost her name) by not letting her fall over when she stops. She also can use it as an outrigger (too much for a name) by putting out at 90 deg to her body when running around and making tight corners. She also uses it as a rudder (her name) by dragging it behind her when she is running straight out. She is a happy dog with no clue she has a handycap. She does fall down more than your average dog

She is not mean to it but gets annoyed with it to be sure. A puppy and an older dog you have to expect (esp a Border Collie puppy)

Animals never cease to amaze me at their ability to cope with Disability much more in some respects than Humans. I should think Rudder and the pup will become great pals eventually, and the collie will be an asset to her.

Well update on Sidney the B. Collie. Just about a year old and it has been apparent that he had seeing issues (running into things and not seeing the ball when tossed every time). So we took him off to the Cornell animal hospital (nice to live less than an hr from a world class animal college and hospital). Ends up Sid has "Collie Eye Syndrome". Lots of techno jargon but the essence is he has multiple blind spots in his vision. The good news is it will not get worse unless his retinas detach and that usually happens in the first year if it is going to happen. He was born with it so he really is not missing anything. So I have a dog with two legs and another that is blind (or partially blind). Thinking of training Rudder (2 legs) to be Sid's seeing eye dog

nice looking dog! I didn't even notice it only had 1 leg in the front. Sounds like these dogs have a nice home. Best home for handicapped dogs!! Because they dont know they are handicapped
