Had a bud need some money, so he gave me a call and wanted to sell his garden tiller to me... Now it's only a year old, and it's a MTD with a 5hp ohv Tecumseh motor, can anyone let me know what they think of this tiller and let me know if my $200 bucks was worth it...

I have an MTD tiller but older, I like it, I always empty the gas out of the tank and then run it dry for storage, only issue was one of the tines got loose and broke the seal on the gear box, and it was not to hard to fix. coarsegoldsurvivalgarden.blogspot.com/2013/06/falure.htmldoes yours look anything like mine ?

Since most of the mini-tillers are almost that price, you got a good deal.

Since we had such a nice weekend I went and done the normal maintenance, changed the air filter, gas filter, changed the oil, crossed my fingers, gave it a pull and it fired up and purred like a kitten on the first pull... yee-haw

Given the price of a new tiller, you got a good deal.

Yes that is a great deal and to me it's better on the back than the shovel

Have you tilled any earth yet to check it out yet? Not yet lol... but, I have the next 9 days to test it out ifn it stays dry out there. The schools here have what's called "spring break" and it's all next week so lotsa time for gardening prep.

spacecase0, paulf, tomato,@tillertom,@dumbweeds, Ok... now I want to know how you sharpen your tiller blades... I used a metal file to sharpen mine, yes it was time consuming, but it was worth it...

sharpen tiller blades ? never thought to do that, they seem to cut well enough totally rounded off or blunt like when it was new, tilling the decomposed granite did end up sharpening them quite a bit though, still made no change in how well it worked

My 40 year old Sears 5hp tiller has never had a blade sharpened. About 5 years ago one of the blades cracked and I replaced that side of the two section blade section. Sill have not sharpened anything. Maybe I aught to think about doing it.

I never thought of sharpening the tines but it sounds like a good thing. An old farmer I know welded some sickle sections to his. It sure cut new ground in a hurry.

I can't believe this, but a member of my household has actually offered to buy me a mini-tiller of my choice.
My choice is the Honda FG110 (+ digging tines).
Anyone here have any experience with this device?
