I spent the last couple of days tilling the garden and cleaning up, FYI the tiller works a lot better when the tines are in the right place. Anyway got it all done now comes the time for covering. I'm thinking cover it with tarps and plastic, a friend thinks plant a cover crop. I've got a lot of organic matter in the garden with more coming shortly when the leaves fall plus there's literal tons of composted manure in the garden. So what do think tarps or cover crop?

By the way Daylillydude thanks. For the first day of my garden project my tiller beat me to death and wouldn't dig for nothing, I was wondering how the ground got that packed in one summer. Whilst standing behind said tiller my fertile mind started wondering and I remembered your post about whether you should sharpen the tines on your tiller, sooooo I stopped and was thinking can't hurt, when I checked, who knew you had a left and right tine . turned em around and had to hang on to keep from going to China

OK spacecaseO I planted wheat today, that way it's cover this winter and spring grazing for momma cow and junior this spring. Till it all in and hopefully get a garden next year. Thanks for the advice

I planted red clover as a cover crop one year and thought I'd never get rid of the stuff to plant vegetables. The plan was for the heat to kill back the clover but it didn't work that way. Now I just use a ton of leaves. That said I can't get green beans to grown worth a darn and someone told me it might be because of the oak leaves.

bestofour spacecase0 I think I'm saving the leaves for mulch instead of tilling them in since there is so much manure and other stuff already in it. I had heard about the oak leaves before but I only have a couple of oaks with a lot of maple and pine mixed in. Thanks for the advice.
