The youngest boy wanted to grow some peanuts this year so one day last spring while at the asian market, I picked up a bag of raw peanuts for planting. Will not ever know what variety they are, but I thought they did good for getting them in a tad late. Another crop that is so easy to grow. And I got this mess off the two dozen plants.

The boy seems to like roasting them, but I like them boiled and raw. These don't seem to have a overpowering earthy tase which makes them taste pretty good raw.

Do you boil in salted water and then dry them in the oven or something like that?

The boy thinks they are fine just roasted plain with no salt. Don't know how they do it with the ones you buy. Probably healthier for him without the salt anyway. I like a little salt when I boil them though.

Nice crop! Just looking at them is making making me want some hot boiled peanuts.
How much space did those two dozen plants take up?

fantastic harvest,
I have cold nights here, pulled up one peanut plant here today and it had 2 pods on it, it may take a while of saving seeds from the best ones to get good results, they did it with tomatoes, so I bet it works with peanuts

That's really neat! How far north can we grow peanuts?

We can grow peanuts in Wisconsin but they have to be a variety which is mature in 120 days or less. Shumway carries a Virginia Jumbo type which does very well here and listed at 120 days. I've grown them several times with great results. All eaten raw here.

Laura_in_FL Laura, I plant them in rows spaced around 18" apart. As well I hill them a little and plant them in the sandiest ground I have. That might be easy for you though down where you live. and yes stratcat, they are a longer day crop, and you would have to take paquebot's advice and find the shortest day variety you could for possible success. These I have were more like 130 days I would imagine.
