Post your Hibiscus pics here. _________________________ Newbie question:, How can I get hibiscus to set seeds? Bees are visiting my hibiscus but when the flower dries up, I don't see any signs of seeds..

I copy'd this from a on line source :I have a large hardy hibiscus tree with dinner plate sized pink flowers. After each flower is spent, look at the center of the cavity where the flower used to be. There should be a small green bump - thats the ovary. Be careful not to handle the plant too much, as the ovary falls off easily. The seeds are small and brown. Make sure to place them in a plastic baggie and seal it. Do this because sometimes a type of beetle emerges from the seeds - a JB I think. They'll die in the bag instead of escaping. Good luck!

Hey stratcat,
If left to their own devices, they can get pretty big. I have 2 close to the house. I typically did not prune them until they started reaching over the eve of my 1-story. As a matter of fact, one of them took out the screen covering a soffit vent. With our freeze last year of 4 days of 25F, they froze to the ground, and after a few months of no activity they re-grew from the ground. They are probably 3 ft tall now from the re-growth. Course we have an even harder freeze coming tonight........

I have one that is over 6' tall.
I planted mixed seed four years ago and now have about 20 that bloomed for the first time last year. They were about 3' tall. Most are up and growing this year. I potted about half of them up before they woke up, so I can sell them when they are in bloom. I'm keeping the other half. I love them!
I think there are only two pure dark red ones. I'm keeping those! There were one or two pure white ones too, but the rest were all shades of pink. I will have to move them to give them more space before they grow next year.
I want to make some hibiscus tea and wine this year.

Anybody knows how long will it take for a hibiscus to produce its 1st flower when started from seed?
