I thought I'd keep a list of the beans and peas that the good folks at NJT have already rated and reviewed. The variety names in the list are all links; if you click on a variety name, you'll go directly to the thread in which it was rated. I've divided the list into four categories: Beans, Cowpeas, Other Beans, and Peas. Beans includes Phaseolus vulgaris varieties native to the Americas, including beans used for green beans, shell beans, and dried beans). Cowpeas (a.k.a. field peas) includes Vigna unguiculata varieties native to Africa, but now commonly grown in the Southern U.S. and other hot summer areas. This category includes blackeyedpeas, Other Beans includes many species of edible beans other than the common beans so familiar to most Americans. Here you may find Asian beans, fava beans, garbanzo beans, lima beans, long beans, runner beans, soya beans, tepary beans, and any other beans. Peas includes all Pisum sativum peas, including edible-podded peas (snow pea and sugar snap type peas), sweet shelling peas for fresh eating, and starchy peas such as soup or marrowfat peas.
