I just went to my local horse & kow feed store. I love this place and can usually get my needs met at a price that does not make me grasp for a tourniquet. Today not so much. I was looking for grafting tape. Its spendy but worth the premium. Well, today all they had on offer was a grafting "kit" of a roll of said tape, a 1/4 pound of paraffin, and a pocket knife. All, for the lordly sum of $ 45.00! Much as I hate to shop on Amazon, that may be all there is. This going to screw Main St business.

Coppice, if you find what you are looking for on Amazon, could you post some links so I know what all I should be using? I doubt I can find much locally, the most likely local nurseries with supplies are closed for the season, though they might have stuff in the spring. I have not checked to see if Home Depot, Menard's or Mill's Fleet Farm have anything.

Went there and they ordered them for me the whole kit! 20.00 comes with cd, two leashes . and the collar. Yup and a coupon! Came to 17.00 free shipping! Yay! Score! I love love love my smart phone to rustle up coupons! So if you have a cell phone, see if you can find a coupon on line, if not, use the computer to get a coupon code you give to the teller.

Actually I made my score on the net at Orchard Supply ( www.orchardsupply.com/ ). After playing nice with some smarter growers on ( growingfruit.org/ ). I can't recommend this last site too strongly. If growing an orchard is your goal. Back on topic, growing Fruit likes "Parafilm" best. Orchard Supply has it on offer in a single roll and a five-pack. I made some of my first grafts this past spring using plain-jane masking tape and parafin. And some survived. I'm going for the premium product to see if it boosts their success rate.

Thanks, Coppice, I appreciate the info. Since I won't really know what I am doing, I figure I should use some professional tried and true materials, though I do like the idea of that masking tape!

There was a twenty-five+ year pause between the first time I did grafts and this springs trial. That I got a 60% success rate was heartening. With off the shelf parts.

we grafted apples with the old time method, cotton string and beeswax. Using cheap razor knife, commonly used for sheetrock work, It's cheap, but with that you have to clip the string soon after they start growing. It was our fist attempt, had around 90% success. Things are getting mighty expensive at times.
