Hey everyone! I stumbled upon this forum while hanging out at Heavenly Hill. My husband and I are closing on a house soon and a vegetable garden is something that I definitely want to start. There is something about growing my own veggies that sounds so cool to me, at the very least I'd like to have ready herbs to cook with. I think I can learn a lot from this place, I look forward to chatting with all of you.

Welcome, greendot! It's always great to hear from a budding gardener. If you don't mind, would you tell us roughly where you live? (For example, I live in NW Florida). I was just thinking that if live in a mild winter climate, you can get started with a fall garden - no need to wait until spring to get your hands dirty. Regardless, if we know what your climate is like, it helps us better answer any questions you might have about what to plant, when to plant, etc.

So it's been a while since I visited. I stumbled upon this forum again after browsing through some links on the Proboards support forum. I've bookmarked this site though so I can be more of a regular. As for where I'm from I'm here in Texas. It's spring time so I'm definitely in the mood to start working on acquiring a green thumb. My husband has aspirations of building an aquaponics system so I may be interested in learning more about that. For now though I think I will start small like herbs and peppers.

Starting small is a good idea. No sense being overwhelmed the first year and throwing your hands up in disgust. Soon you will be looking for more garden space.

Welcome Back, Greendot!
I agree with Paul, start small and build on your garden once you've got the hang of it and decide it's the hobby for you! What kind of herbs and peppers are you thinking of growing?
