I have 5 Cushaw pie pumpkins/squash on the vine, and the shape is right, but the colour is different from all the photos I see on the internet. Mine are dark green with barely visible black stripes. Has anyone seen a Cushaw of this colour?

Haven't seen your color but a lady at the farmers market has Cushaw that are a lovely purple and green stripe. Too pretty to cut.

@blr: Yes, I roasted one. They are not ultrasweet like some winter squashes, but not totally insipid either! It is fairly dry, not watery like regular western pumpkin.
For savory dish, I added butter, salt & pepper and it was all right. But not like Melonette, butternut or some others - which would cause problems for diabetics, they are so sweet. (Not that we are diabetics.)
For "pumpkin" pie, it works nicely, with the dry flesh.
