Which variety did you grow this year and how would you rate it with taste and production?

Marketmore from Patriot Supply. There's no pest problem that I've noticed and this year has been a bumper crop. Love them.

I have found myself growing market more, also. I did terribly this year, due to excessive rain on them.

I only grow County Fair, since they are the only variety resistant to bacterial wilt, which every other variety I have tried through the years has ended up dying from. They have good flavor, and few seeds, unless they get too large, as with any cuke. And they are parthenocarpic, so need no pollinator, and the all female flowers is probably part of the reason for the productivity.
I grow them in bucket SIPs - 5 gal inside 6 gal - and they grow like crazy! I get close to 40/plant, and planted them 3 weeks apart. Next year, I'll plant them 4 weeks apart - that should work better. And I have a last pair of them out there now - hopefully, they will have time to produce.
In the early part of the year, these, along with many other plants (eggplant, tomato, pepper, okra, beans, squash, melons) I spray with actinovate (a biofungicide) mixed with Surround, which helps keep many bugs off of the plants, as well. Once the fruits start forming I switch over to a spray of potassium bicarbonate, every 10 days or so, which helps prevent mildews, and other fungus diseases.

I grew 3 varieties this year. As always, the best is JAPANESE LONG. Small seeds; crisp; nice flavour; problem-free. They keep blooming and producing longer than any other, also.

Hi, Tomike. I don't have any photos of my own crop, but here is something from rareseeds.com, where I buy my cuc seeds from. If you read the reviews, you will see that no one has anything bad to say about this variety. Actually, mine don't look quite like the ones in the photo; they are more curved, like a snake Also, they get larger - yet the taste stays the same as when they are young. This is my 3rd year growing them. I'll never grow any other variety except for the pickling kind. www.rareseeds.com/japanese-long-cucumber/

I started with the variety "straight eight" been saving seeds from them for about 5 years now and now they are more like straight four to six got lots of production from 38 plants quit harvesting half way through the season pretty sure I will need to use a 5 gallon bucket to ferment the seeds this year, but might do it in several batches in one gallon buckets as some of them look ready to go earlier than others.

The seeds were from Wal-Mart, I don't remember the variety and of the ten or so plants to come up we harvested ONE cucumber and did not eat that one. Complete waste of space. I promise to do better next year. The cucumbers were completely hidden between blackberry vines and asparagus that went to seed and grew eight feet tall and bushy. My fault and I continue to hear about it. New spot for 2018....I promise.
