daylilydude , stratcat , spacecase0 , swamper , Laura_in_FL ,, Kroger started carrying mayocoba beans and I am now a devoted consumer of these creamy white beans, used in northern Mexican cooking. 6 hours in the crockpot on high with whatever you want to add makes a delicious bean feast. They can take the place of navy beans in ham and beans or combined with RoTel for a spicy soup. I want to try to grow these next year. Anyone have experience?

indigogirl17, I'm sorry I haven't either... but interested as we love our smoked ham and navy beans.

These are sooooooooo good. Could also be used in chili, burritos, made into refried beans, baked beans, etc

I planted them 4 years ago. Don't know why but return was much lower than expected. Dry bean return should be at least 100:1 but I don't think that I got 50:1. That's probably why it's not a common bean in stores.

I haven't tried them, but just in case anyone is looking for the beans, Rancho Gordo sells them. (Along with MANY other amazing looking varieties. I love their beans!)

Our local WalMart supercenter carries them in one-pound packages @ $1.98, just over 12¢ per ounce. Also available on line from them.

Yes, liked them but didn't really have enough for a stand-alone meal with them. About the only way that we eat dry beans is in soup and that's where they went. A little research says that they indeed may be substituted for other white beans in soups.

I don't grow these though I like them for a dry bean. It's cheaper for me to buy them versus the loss of an are I can grow things that are harder or unable to purchase.

Did you just plant the beans from the package you bought at the store? Thanks!

I get mine from HEB. I don't know if the store is known outside of Texas, but it's a grocery chain. I like the bean as a change of pace. It's a nice bean that makes creamy soup.
