36 beats per minute? Yowsers, it's a wonder he was even conscious! So glad that he has a new pacemaker now. Hope you got some rest - you earned it!

As a runner in my youth my resting heart rate was 48 to 52 beats per minute. At my last physical it was 58bpm. Growing up in Lakeview Oregon at altitude, doctors say my heart was larger than normal and therefor didn't need to beat as fast. I have friends whose heart rate is in the 70s and 80s...way too fast...hoping theirs don't wear out.

Got sidetracked yesterday. The handle broke off the storm door, so I needed to replace it. Ran out and picked up a kit. It was the right one, but it was off by just a wee bit. Everything didn't line up quite right, but it was so close. Yep, that took all afternoon, ha. So, we have a new handle, but now the door doesn't latch because it's sagging. That's a job for today. I hate fixing saggy doors.

This afternoon I took my youngest son to get his braces. He got the Spark invisible liners (like Invisalign, just a different brand). Of course he's uncomfortable and not enjoying the feel of having them in his mouth, but he's not nearly as miserable as son #3 was when he got his metal braces.
So I am optimistic that he will have an easier time overall in dealing with them than his brother does dealing with his braces.

Packed off two old ladies in their 80's after a three day visit. One of them locked herself in the bathroom and couldn't get the door open just before they were supposed to leave. I almost had to remove the screen and go in through the bathroom window, (singing like Joe Cocker) when she finally figured out how to turn the doorknob just in time! It was an enjoyable visit, but I am ready for some quiet alone time!

september Before that lady visits again, you might want to install a bathroom handle - the kind with that little hole on the outside, so you can get in. Unless you just want to see if you still do that window thing! I did little today, given the weather, and not supposed to get much better tomorrow. I have plenty to do inside, for sure!

I just saw son #3 off, since he is headed back to school. He had an orthodontist appointment this morning, so he came home for the weekend. It was so nice having him home for a few days. I will miss him of course, but I do feel better now than when he started school in August. It helps a lot having seen in person that he has adjusted to dorm life well, and he's healthy and happy.

Cleaning out the laundry room and kitchen. Last Tuesday I bought an LG 22cf French door bottom freezer to replace the 21 year old Kenmore and it's to be delivered Monday. That night the LG front loader refused to drain. Since I was going by Lowes anyway I looked at washing machines. A New Years sale was on on it's last day so I bought it to be delivered Friday. That night I found the instructions on the 10 year old LG washing machine, drained the tub, and cleaned a fist full of dog hair and fabric shreds out of the old washing machine pump screen. I tried it out and it is back to working like new. Thursday morning I went and cancelled the order and requested a refund. Since I had paid with a check, they said they would mail me a prepaid debit card for the amount. I'm still keeping the receipt on hand though. Sometime in this month I get my parents sectional that won't fit in their new house, so got to get ready for that also.

Well the debit card turned out to be only spendable at Lowes so I spent a couple of hours at Lowes trying to get that sorted out. Still in progress. The fridge was delivered Monday . Despite having paid for haul away they refused to take the old fridge . They said it was 3/4 inch to big to fit through my door. To which I replied "How do you think Sears put it there 21 years ago?" They also refused to connect the waterline to the new fridge because it was copper and "We don't touch copper" . It was an all day affair with 4 trips to Ace Hardware but I finally got the water line switched to the new fridge without anymore leaking.

Ugh, what a pain in the behind. Installers these days won't do anything more than the bare minimum. Even after you pay for installation, they find some reason they "can't" do it and leave you stranded with a new appliance sitting in the middle of your floor. We've been there, too, but luckily DH is pretty handy and so far has been able to get things taken care of like you did. I guess people who are not handy end up stuck until they can get an electrician and/or plumber to come. And those guys might cost them more than the new appliance did!

Speaking of electricians, I am trying to get one out to my house today. I had an inspection done yesterday to try to get homeowners insurance with a new company to save some money.
The inspector identified one thing in the outside electrical panel that needs fixing, so I need to get it fixed and then get the inspector back out here to verify the fix.

A few bolts or screws to remove the door and out it goes…an extra three minutes. No young people know how to deal with copper so they just don’t. Sad state of affairs.
In our area, getting a plumber or electrician is very difficult. We need to make the trades more inviting. I would pay the fee if they would show up.

We have a different issue with electricians and plumbers. There are plenty of them, but there's a huge amount of new construction going on, and they would much rather wire or plumb a new house than do piddly little repair jobs for homeowners. There is also a lot of government work (rebuilding the AF base, expanding and still fixing infrastructure from Hurricane Michael). And they really prefer the government jobs - one of them flat out told me they only do government contract work!
But I did find an electrician after making enough calls. They came out this morning, but now I can't get the inspector back out to verify the work until next Thursday.
In Florida, state law doesn't let insurance companies cherry-pick areas - if they want to offer homeowners insurance in the state, they have to issue insurance in the hurricane risk zones. But companies are allowed to set standards for the condition of the roof, plumbing, electrical, and HVAC. In practice, that means that if you are in a hurricane risk area they can get really picky. I firmly believe that insurance companies use this as a back-door mechanism to reduce the number of policies they write in hurricane risk areas, but I can't prove it.

Yes I have the door off now but I can't move it outside until I have a truck or trailer ready to haul it off. Otherwise my Karen neighbor will call her boyfriend who works with the City. Today Home Depot called me about the service call tomorrow "What service call?". Anyhow she is refunding my haul away fee. She also asked about the delivery people and I told her that they were worthless.

I spent the weekend with my parents. They are still feeling the after effects of Covid. I took Mom for her Sam's Club expedition, tore down the steps and decks of the trailer that had been sold and hauled off, Washed their dog, changed all of the dead lightbulbs , brought them a pork loin brushed with peach barbecue sauce.

Took and passed the on-line test to become a Nebraska High School baseball umpire. So far I am registered and with another test in March I can call myself certified. For this first year back behind the plate after a 30 year hiatus my plan is to be a substitute and junior varsity ump unless pressed into service more than I think. Last year most of my games were local kids recreation 10, 12 and 14 year olds. So long as I am able I will continue. I just love the game and watching kids enjoy themselves. Today March 11 took another timed test to become "Certified" as an umpire in Nebraska. The status will remain "approved" until successfully umpiring six varsity ball games and being approved by a group of officials who rate the job done. Wonder if this old man will get any work this year. Today was the first day of raking out the flower beds and cleaning up the raised beds. Just a little stiff and sore. Got to get in shape for the season.

I have spent the last 3 weekends moving my parents from their large house with 5 acres. At 93 and 89 they could no longer safely live there on their own. The property values were plunging about $1000 a month. Their neighborhood used to be 5 acre lots but developer bought all of the vacant ones and crammed them full of rental condos. Around the corner from them someone was cooking meth on the second story of a house and blew it up. Dad is having a hard time recovering from Covid he can't even remember to wear his dentures. He really didn't want to leave yesterday but all that was left in the house was a recliner and a couch. We had already moved his medicine clothes and furniture. We had to do something as some of his neighbors were talking about reporting us for elder abuse. Apparently in US you can abandon your parents to fend for themselves but you can't constantly go in and out taking them to doctors appointments and doing their shopping as well as cooking and cleaning for them. Anyhow we 3 kids are taking a week off then going back to taking to finish cleaning out their house and their rental house and get them sold.

mgulfcoastguy I hope things go smoothly for you buddy. I didn’t do too much. Took my babies out for a stroll. My shepherd mix was 13 today. Got back home and wife gave them their cake/ice cream treats. We give them cake and ice cream on their BD’s. I didn’t sleep well. I stared at the ceiling from midnight to 5am, I guess shortly thereafter, I must have fallen asleep. Wife woke me a little after 7ish. I’m kind of getting hungry, I need to snap my fingers and get something on a plate. Hahahaa.

I pressure washed my deck today, along with the "rocker" I made back in the 80s, so it's obvious that the wood is pressure treated. It really needed pressure washing, as it had algae growing on it - same with the deck. The deck I'll stain again, with a solid stain, the Behr solid stain, from Home Depot, which always seems to test the best. I wanted to get this done soon, before I start getting my plants out there.

I need to snap my fingers and get something on a plate. If you are snapping those fingers at your wife, that something on a plate will be your head! Snap, Snap, Chop, Chop. Hahahaaa! No, seriously I’m just funning. I don’t even remember what we ate. I know one afternoon I wanted Taco Bell, but when we got there, a big sign that said temporarily closed. I know that day we went the long way around the barn and it was late when we finally ate. Now what I call late is not really late as far as the clock goes. I try to eat no later than 4 and usually earlier if possible. Oh I remember now! We drove close to 60 miles to eat at a place, that was closed! However, right down the road, another restaurant was having an Elvis Impersonator, so we went there. Too freaking loud for my taste, but everyone else seemed to enjoy it. You can’t go by me though because I don’t enjoy things like I used to as I’m just sort of going through the motions.

Yesterday I decided to prune a severely overgrown pear tree. It's well over 20 years old, and never been pruned. It had to be 20' wide and 30' tall. That was....interesting, ha. Did you know pear trees are grabby, sticky, pokey, scratchy kinda trees? My arms and legs look like I crawled through a briar patch on my hands and knees, lol. That's alright, I eventually won. Today will be more of the same. I think I'm going to prune the bushes/shrubs around the house. It's been a few years for them as well.

So, last night was not exactly restful.
Just after midnight, I heard multiple gunshots in my neighborhood. It sounded like two different calibers, probably 20 booms spread out over several minutes. I was sure there was a shootout going on in my neighborhood. We got up and dressed, preparing for God knows what. A few minutes after the shots, we heard sirens and police, ambulances, and fire trucks came screaming in right past our house. We could hear voices shouting in the distance, but couldn't make out any words. DH went outside cautiously and saw smoke rising and emergency lights, but couldn't see anything else because other houses were between us and whatever was going on. A while after the shots an ambulance came back out with lights on, and turned on its sirens as soon as it reached the main road, so presumably they were transporting an injured person.
After about an hour, the emergency lights went out, the voices stopped, and the emergency vehicles left. DH by this point had decided that it was a fire rather than a shootout, and we went to bed.
Yep, he was right: this morning we saw a local news article: it was a garage fire in our neighborhood. Everyone got out of the house before the emergency vehicles arrived, but one person was injured and transported to the hospital; no details were provided on his or her identity or condition. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
So I guess the "gunshots" were aerosol cans exploding or maybe the person had ammo stored in the garage? I dunno, but man, for a few minutes there it really sounded like a gang turf war was going on in our normally quiet neighborhood!
Needless to say, since as of last night we didn't know what happened, sleep was slow in returning, and we all had a tough time getting up this morning!

Laura_in_FL, I feel your pain with the "gunshots." Not far from us is the arsenal and the Reservists are always playing war with BIG booms. Everyone out here has guns and someone is always target practicing. I know there is a shooting range somewhere close by, plus there is the fools that shoot tannenite. Can be quite concerning at times!

Here in the city limits you can't shoot guns legally. Gunshots at any time are crime-related, and I am in a low-crime part of town, so they are very rare. Literally the last time I heard gunshots here was right after Hurricane Michael, when things were generally crazy. And the shots were much farther away that time!
I do expect to hear some daytime gunshots when I move out to the new property, because it's in the unincorporated part of the county and shooting is legal as long as it's done safely. Shooting varmints? No problem. Wanna set up your own personal shooting range in the backyard? Cool, as long as you have a safe backstop. So I think I will be okay with some daytime gunshots, though it will be annoying if one of the close neighbors has a personal shooting range and/or plays with tannerite!
But no matter where I live, gunshots (and sounds that resemble gunshots) in the middle of the night will always freak me out!
