This is the bean I'll be concentrating on this year. This was given to me by Idig memember "Cornish woman" this bean was a mutant found in her bean patch. She named it Hoteko after her maiden name. I don't know how many people she sent Seed to, but the only person I shared Seed with was a lady named Laurene who lived in Martha's Vineyard. I don't know much about it, so this will be a fun experience for me. I see no mention of this bean on the internet, but I'm not great at researching anymore. I have a difficult time with visual details, but the wife says it's cream colored and the darker areas are brownish red.

That's a pretty bean hairymooseknuckles, is it a pole or bush bean? I will be growing a similar looking one called yellow eye which is yellow where yours is brownish red. I bought some from Rancho Gordo for eating and saved a few to grow this coming year.

She probably just shared them with a few people on idig because they are so beautiful. I'll ask her the details, we are in constant contact.

brownrexx, I don't know girl. Sadly, I moved to town right after receiving it. My notes don't say what it is. Maybe bluelacedredhead, can get me back in touch with her.

I've already sent her a message this morning but I haven't heard back as yet. She's probably out feeding horses.

brownrexx, aqua, bluelacedredhead, aftermidnight Ok, I have more info. They are indeed a pole bean. Kate was able to send me a fresh stash of seeds. I will be attempting to grow, save and share. Also, another friend of mine, gave me a link to another bean that appeared similar. The eBay seller had one pkg left and I bought it. However, they are a little different in color and size. The eBay seller was not able to tell me much about them except he acquired them in a trade and they came from a small shop in Turkey. I'll post pictures as soon as I can.

I received my package from Kate on Thursday. They are a beautiful bean. The name Osterreich means Austria, so I'm guessing they had origins in Austria.

Kate doesn't remember other than them growing in her garden. I've been calling them Hoteko all these years. I need to get the wife to research Osterreich Beans and what we can find out.

A friend of mine posted a link to a bean on eBay. At first glance it looked similar, so I bought the last sample. The man on eBay told me he acquired it from a trade and said they got it from a small shop in Turkey. I didn't need another bean, but could not pass it up in case it was the same bean. As you can see, it's very different. Top bean is from EBay the bottom one is Hoteko or Osterreich as its called now.
