What's the one thing you have bought for your gardening adventures that you wish you hadn't bought at all?

I think that it was called a cultivating hoe. It's a long handle with several wheels at the bottom. The wheels have spikes on them and you are supposed to push and pull it through the soil and it will fluff it up.
I thought that it sounded like a great idea so I bought one a couple of years ago. All it did was roll along the surface of my clay soil. I hated it so I sold it on Craig's List the following week.

That was exactly what I was going to post too! Mine is called a Garden Weasel. Stupid, useless contraption. It doesn't dig into any kind of dirt whatsoever. Makes a really pretty jingling sound when you carry it though.

Somebody gave me one of those as a gift many years ago. It wasn't totally useless - I took the handle off of it, before tossing it. lol

That's so funny that we all got tricked by the same stupid tool. I thought that it was just because my soil was too hard or my arms were too weak! I guess not.

How many got taken by the advertising? Not me, so I can say,"HA-HA-HA." pic hosting sitesMy useless items have been the "do it yourself" pH meters, soil testers, moisture and fertility kits. I can't believe I spent money on that crap thinking they would be of any use.

Well, I have to speak up for this much maligned tool! Maybe mine is a bit different, because the handle is yellow and offset, so it makes a big difference in holding it as to which side digs in deeper. I actually bought it to rough up some bare open ground to hold newly seeded grass seeds from washing away. Since then, I have used it between my corn rows, shoveling it back and forth to loosen tiny weeds that are just starting to grow and break up the slight top crust of clay which dries after a rain. It's not a tool I couldn't live without, but does get used some.

I'm with September on the Garden Weasel Just have to learn how to use it and use it for what it's supposed to be used for. The only time that it is a problem is when there are a lot of sticks in the soil. The tines will pick them up and jam it.
