OK, here is what I am definitely planting in 2018 but I will probably add a couple more to it since I just ordered an heirloom dry bean sampler pack from Rancho Gordo. It contains a red bean, Domingo Rojo, and a white bean, Alubia Blanca and I will probably end up planting some of each of them.
I have been wanting a red bean to use in chile that was not as large as a kidney bean and I think that the Domingo Rojo will be what I was looking for. I also like to add black beans to chili so that I have 2 colors.

hairymooseknuckles, you asked me if I had any thoughts about that red and white bean that you sent me and at first I thought that it looked like a red calypso. Now that I have looked a little further I see that it can not be a calypso because the red color on calypso goes from the top to the bottom of the bean not across the middle and calypso is also a bush bean and you said that this one is a pole bean. I did a lot of searching on Google and can not find anything that looks like it. Darn. It would be nice to know what it is called but I DO love the color and I will definitely grow it tin 2018. Thanks for sharing with me.

brownrexx, Absolutely. I'm excited to grow it too. My Buddy George is the fellow that saw it on eBay and told me about it. It's different from my Hoteko bean, but still similar. aftermidnight found another one called Annie Jackson and it looks similar too. So many beans so little time!

I have more bean seed pics but not the pods, when I started taking pics it was just of the seed for identification purposes, but, when I found so many different heirloom varieties had seed that looked alike I started taking pics of flowers and pods for my records. Beware, this is what happens when you become addicted to these guys . Annette

Annette, One of the reasons I started the thread was to try and get others interested in Beans. Your pictures are wonderful and hopefully we can infect the group with bean obsession. Hahagaaa. Another reason was so people could "see" the beans. Even the best descriptions sometimes aren't as good as a picture. Take for instance some of your pretty red beans above, the pictures are just incredible. I was looking at one called Bubblegum last night. It is so awesome I gotta tell ya, I have the Bubblegum Bug. I have no idea where in the world I'd put it, but I guess I could scratch another hole somewheres. aftermidnight, ahntjudy, brownrexx

I absolutely LOVE all of the different colors and this is what attracted me to dry beans in the first place. Now that I found out that so many of them turn brown with cooking I am refining my selections to sizes and textures that I like.
I am growing the Yellow Eye because I discovered that a lighter bean made a different looking soup than one that turned the broth more of a brown color. I am also going to grow a white bean for the first time also for use in soup.
I never grew white beans before because I thought that they were boring looking but now I see that they have their advantages too.
Beans really can be quite interesting.

aftermidnight , Your India bush, my eyes are so blurry today, but it looks like it has a Mohawk? Does it really have a ridge in the bean? I blew it up as big as I could, but I just can't see well. San Antonio sort of looks Soldierish. I like it!

brownrexx , One you might like is Red Eye Fall. I grew Steuben Yellow Eye last year. My seeds were very old, but I managed to get enough seeds to retry, but not enough to eat. My production was very poor. I was happy to get fresh seed because they came from an Idig Buddy.

hairymooseknuckles, yes a bit of a ridge, not bad tasting but not a fav of mine. It's the only Hyacinth bean I know that is a bush bean.
