Wow that thing is WAY expensive. I think that I pay about $1.29 for a tray of plastic cell pots and I only use one per year so that gadget would take 15.5 years to pay for itself at my house. I am happy with what I am already using.
I think that you could probably make your own newspaper pots by wrapping paper around some suitably sized round container like a can anyway. I just fine the plastic to be easier. I used some newspaper one year and it got kind of saggy.

Oh that is just stupid!! I made my own pots for years with an old prescription bottle and the table.

I don't think the gadget is worth the money, and I would not use one. I am pretty happy with my plastic cells, which I reuse many times.

Gardener's Supply always has neat stuff, but is mostly very pricey. My plastic, reusable pots last for years and years and were about a penny each if used only once. Spike does it right if you want paper

I've seen these overpriced items in catalogs for many years, and I actually made one, for 2" diameter pots, out of some scrap wood in my shop. I was not thrilled with the paper pots - they dry out too fast, and fell apart too quickly. Fortunately, I only grew a few things in them that stayed in the pots longer. Anyway, that was the only year that I used it.

I would never buy one, but it sure is a pretty made little thing, maybe it could do double duty as a sock darning egg?

I agree with the others that the gadget is too expensive and I use plastic inserts anyway.
If other newspapers go the way I think ours will soon be, there won't be any newspaper to use! I do use newsprint on top of the soil, under the mulch.

I've never used a tool such as that for paper pots but I did make a whole bunch of them a few years ago, just origami type folding into topless boxes... I was having a plant sale...didn't have enough pots that I wanted to part with, so I made the paper ones...they were nice and sturdy and held up really well...Can be made any size...All depends on how large a size you start with your paper in the first place... They worked out great...

I've got no use for one. Don't like paper pots for my method.
