This might be interesting so just fill in the blank. Could be a certain fruit/vegetable, a certain type of garden, a certain plant or even a gardening event. What one thing makes gardening complete for you?

Tomato, warm from the sun, direct from the garden.

...The most dear memories of my Uncle John, my gardening mentor, as a little girl, tagging along with him in his pristinely kept garden, tapping the closed zucchini blossoms to awaken and shoo out the sleeping bumblebees before harvesting the male flowers to make fritters...harvesting bushel baskets of produce and bringing them to my Aunt and Mom waiting in the kitchen... And in his garden is where I saw my first snake...

...having strangers drive up and request a tour through the gardens and to sample some of my home grown "strange" tomatoes.

Walking out into an early summer garden in the morning, after a night of rain. The feeling of the warm rising sun, the humid smell of damp earth drying and new fresh green growth full of the possibilities to come are the ultimate high!

Although seeing the first ripe tomato is always fun for me, I also love seeing seedlings emerge from the soil where I have planted seeds. It always seems so magical to me and I love that fresh green color that they always start out with.
Gardening is just plain satisfying.

Seeds. Saving them, trading them for other varieties. Starting veggies indoors from seeds. And saving them again when the season is over.

It isn't gardening without family participation and bonding.

It isn't gardening without a pitcher of lightly sweetened iced tea in the fridge for after my work is completed for the day.
I absolutely love the moment where you have finished with the hard work in the garden and know you've gotten a lot accomplished, and then you sit down for a brief rest with a glass of iced tea. It's so restorative to me and gives me that time to really be in the moment and reflect on what I've done that day and what I might do in the garden at the next opportunity.

Sharing the veggies, as well as constantly learning and sharing the knowledge with other gardeners. On my job, I observe a lot of people in their gardens out there, and strike up conversations with them, sometimes talking for so long that I skip my lunch break! lol We all love to talk, it seems, when it comes to gardening.
And that first ripe tomato is the thing I look forward to the most, every season!

The sun on my face, the bees/butterflies/humming birds dive bombing, cold drinks of well water from the hose, the smell of dirt and tomato plants and the pure joy of being alive and in the garden.

My bermuda shorts. They are old jeans cut and shortened to knee level. I make them just so I can wear them when I work in the garden.

I agree with Brownrexx, seeing those freshly planted seeds spring out of the ground.

It’s not gardening without months of planning and re-planning. Which varieties, where they go, how many. I love dreaming. I just wish we had more room to grow stuff!

I would add to your planning and re-planning with: Starting to follow the plan and then deciding to chuck the plan and just plant All The Seeds Everywhere.

Ha ha! I think I'm too particular about rows and what goes where. Maybe it's OCD. Kinda like not being able to kill something that has sprouted.
