Okay now, let's play off of yesterday's question... What is your least favorite part of the gardening experience? Planning, planting, nurturing, harvesting, cooking or something else?

Battling plant diseases and detrimental insects... But I guess that's all part of the gardening experience ...

Snow. Can't do nothin until Mother Nature takes her meds and knocks it off. Now I simply LOVE snow but it sure puts a hamper on my garden. Sigh. Yes woke up to a fresh blanket of snow. I think Spring is scheduled for next Tuesday at noon for 3 hours . . .

I guess that pulling weeds ranks right up there but I have to admit that although I like planning and I like buying seeds, I really do not enjoy the actual process of planting of seeds outdoors. Once they are planted I am happy though.
I love seeing the seeds pop up through the soil but the actual process of making the rows and planting the seeds does not really appeal to me.

1. Digging in amendments and planting holes and pushing wheelbarrows of rotted manure around. My back just isn't up to what I used to be able to do without pain.
2. Preserving my produce. I hate being in the kitchen doing anything, so long sessions of prep time, - washing, cutting up etc. make me nasty crazy. I wish there was a magic wand I could wave to to have a full freezer and jars on my pantry shelf without lifting a finger. Every year I swear I will can tomatoes instead of freezing, but when the time comes I can't make myself do it.

Animal control (insects included, since they are animals. lol), with weed control a close second.

Having to face the fact that garden season is over. Leaves, etc are all plowed in and the ground has frozen.

All the processing after the harvest. I am grateful for the bounty, but it's always a chore for me. I wish someone else did it in my place. I don't even like picking the veggies unless they get used (eaten up) right away.

It's a tough call between weeding and battling insects/disease. When I am doing those jobs, I know that no matter what I do or how well I do it, they'll be BACK. Probably really soon, too.

I greatly dislike the time when I come back from my camping vacation every year. Usually it works out that when we get back we are treated to a bumper harvest of beans and greens, but in addition, the weeds have gone crazy while we were gone AND the tomato plants are suddenly in need of support. I have twenty loads of laundry on deck and camping supplies to put away, but those need to be put on hold because the plants cannot wait.
It stresses me out every year! This year we're going camping a week earlier than last year AND I'm getting a late start on the tomatoes, so maybe those factors will combine so I don't have the same issues.

I would say cleaning out the garden at the end of the season. It's usually still quite humid and there are bugs biting me and flying in my face. I feel like I'm doing a lot of work with no immediate reward. I used to grow a fall garden and that was my motivation for cleaning out the summer garden, but I've become so busy with work, I now just try to keep a garden April through September.

The "lazy" answer would be almost "all of the above"......
We all have things that we "dislike" in common.... as gardeners, of course.......

First is battling diseases on tomatoes. Second is figuring out what to do with everything that's harvested.

My least favorite part of gardening is harvesting and processing all of the vegetables I have enjoyed so much watching them grow from tiny seeds. Now the work begins.

I dislike killing things weeds or gophers I was tilling up a corn plot today, dug up a gopher with the tiller, killed it by crushing it. got splattered with blood doing so it breaks my heart doing things like that but was already sad killing the weeds in the first place I love everyone and everything I am sure not Shiva (but in a dream years ago she claimed to be my sister)

My least favorite part of gardening is climbing back up, off my hands and knees.
