How long do you keep your different flower seeds before you know that they just won't sprout? What type flower would be great to know also...

My wife says the second year the bottom drops out for the germination rate. She rarely keeps flower seeds more than the year purchased and the second year is spotty. That includes all varieties.

I've had zinnia seeds grow from 5 yeas ago! In fact, this year I got really frugal and will use some from 2012 and 2013 that I have stashed away amidst other seeds that were forgotten. We shall see....

I don't know how long they last. I keep saving various flower seeds, but then forget to use most of them and buy new. I have an huge stash of hollyhocks and rudbeckia in plastic bags that are 10 years old. I keep saying I'm going to dump them all in the ground down by our mailbox on the township road and just see if any come up. The newly purchased snapdragon seed last a couple of years, as do the lobelia.

I never realized that they did not keep. This year I planted 1/2 a pack of purchased tithonia seed (Mexican Sunflower) that was 2 years old and only ONE seed germinated. Last year I had almost 100% germination.
