If and when you apply the insecticide do you prefer powdered or the liquid form, and do you have a special technique to apply it?

I only have 2 insecticides in my arsenal and they are Neem and Spinosad in liquid pre-mixed form in a spray bottle. I rarely use them but if I do it's in the evening when they are less likely to affect the bees.
Most of my insects are big enough for hand picking (Japanese Beetles, Colorado Potato Beetles and their larvae) or I might use a floating row cover to exclude them like cabbage butterflies on my cabbage crops.
If I see aphids (rarely) I spray them off with a hose and regular water and just this year I am having success with keeping flea beetles off of my eggplants with used coffee grounds.
I only use insecticides, even if they are organic, if nothing else works.

Before I found Surround, which is sprayed in a solution, I tried DE in powder, but I wouldn't recommend it, as it creates a huge cloud of dust. I used my positive pressure face mask I have in my workshop, as a regular face mask isn't very effective. Plus, DE washed off much easier than Surround, and it can kill beneficial insects, as well. That's the only thing I ever used in dust form.

Liquids are a lot safer to use, IMO.
Dusts are much easier to inhale, and they get all over you, so then you bring the dust indoors (on your clothes, skin, and hair) to contaminate your house.

I use neem and dormant oil. Applied early enough in the year, that I am not too worried about over spray on bees.
As tree mature that may change, but for now morning spray works.

I have a cabbage worm problem so I bought the ready-to-use Sevin spray just for that... hope it works cause as of right now the heads on my cabbage are almost as big as the top of a 5 gallon bucket.

It is Bt. also called Dipel... that is the name you probably need to look for. it comes in either liquid or dust. we prefer the liquid but I will use whatever I have available. It is a bacteria that the worm(s) eats one bite and feels full the rest of its life. it stops eating and dies. it does not affect us. we use a spreader sticker in it too. that keeps it adhered to the plant even with some rain.
