Are you happy when the gardening season is winding down or do you wish it would continue longer?

Anymore, it's long enough for me... I garden and harvest until killing frost which doesn't occur til November sometimes... By then, there's been plenty of food for family and neighbors and lots of stuff in the freezer... It's after the garden is done that I can do other projects that there's no time for during gardening season...

I like a break over the winter but I would like if it were not quite as long. In other words I wish the gardening season would last another couple of months. Spring is usually so cold and wet, then it gets really hot and then it's over!
Our first average frost is mid October.
This year has been a bad one.

I like my long winter break, I only wish for more weeks of earlier spring weather to get pre-planting stuff done. Fall is always wonderful, and about the right length most years. At our latitude, we lose sun angle and intensity of rays, so areas get more shade time than earlier in the summer and things don't grow as fast. I don't mind that, since I'm tired of large amounts of chopping and freezing by then anyway.

I just breaks my little heart to put my garden to bed for the winter. But I am a 4 seasons kind of girl.

I'm pretty much taking a summer break now, because for me there is no winter break. And it's just so unpleasant to work outside in sauna conditions.

By October the garden and I are tired and need to rest. March to November is long enough. January and February are research months.

I used to garden year round, but I was out of gas by June this year. I have 2 tomato plants and 6 or 7 bean plants left all I do is water once a week unless I forget. I let them go nearly 3 weeks this last time and finally remembered them. Here lately I feel like an aging gunslinger.

I wish my gardening season ended with two Septembers and two Octobers. I don't start gardening for real until May, so an extension would be helpful. March and April are too unpredictable in my area. I used to begin on March 15th with carrots and the usual cold season greens, but then April would be hot and stuff would bolt. So I gave up.

I usually don't stop gardening until well into December, unless we have a very cold spell in Nov., to kill the fall crop. And sometimes the fall crop will keep growing, through mild winters. I might have a couple months off, but I usually have projects to do in the workshop, and keep myself occupied there.

Winding down? A lot of my stuff got started at least 6 weeks late so it's just getting up to speed now. Has only been a single tomato brought into the house so far. First head of cabbage today. I'll still be charging forward when frost arrives!

I’m with paquebot. Our season is just starting to produce, which is a bit late because of hail, etc. I have 2 harvests of broccoli, one is just about done, the other has just barely begun to start heads. Beets and cucumbers are going well for harvests. I have very few tomatoes that set fruit because of the many days of high 90* temps. It is funny to see no fruit on the lower branches of the plants, and just starting on the tops.

I am getting overwhelmed with tomatoes this year, the days of high temps didn't seem to affect tomato set as there are plenty still to come. Small patch of corn is about ready to pick and cucumbers are producing like crazy. First frost is still two months away and although that would kill the garden, I wouldn't mind the cooler weather. I also wouldn't mind not having to water the garden beds every 2 or 3 days either. But as someone else has mentioned, once the winter starts to take hold, you really start to anxiously await Spring to be able to start it all over again.
