I never checked the soil temperature for beans but I don't think that the difference between 66 and 70 would be significant. I am surprised that your soil temp is only 66 with the hot air temperature that you have described lately. Are you only measuring the soil temp only an inch or two down? This is planting depth. Yes and I was surprised too. The only reason I checked it was when I was hoeing the area the dirt looked so rich that I got myself a handful, just to touch it, and it felt so cool. I checked another area and it was cool too. I was surprised. It was 86 again today so I'm thinking it will only be a day or two before it gets up there. The dirt in the raised beds is warm but that's not where the beans are going.
