Only when dry? Every day? Whenever you remember? When they wilt? From the top? From the bottom?

When the soil gets dry and from the bottom unless I have forgotten and they need a quick shot.

When the top of the soil is dry and the cells feel lighter, but before any wilting. From the top because not all cells are equally dry.

I water from the top almost every day so they never really dry out completely.
I know that many people swear by bottom watering but I don't see the point. If you water from the bottom, the water will still move up and the entire cell of soil will get wet.
I would rather water from the top until it runs out the bottom. This also keeps the plants from sitting in water. I have never had any damping off but I attribute this more to using sterile soil and having my seedlings in the sunroom which is about 70° and not in a basement where the temperature would be lower and more attractive to the damping off organisms.
