Do you add compost to your garden in the spring or the fall or both?

I've added compost to my garden in the fall and till the garden at the same time. I often get a good deal on compost from Garden Centers at this time of the year as they close for winter. Then in the spring, I till the garden again with my small roto-tiller and another gardening season begins...

Manure based compost in the fall, plant based in the spring.

Straw and newspaper mulch is tilled under in the fall and any good compost is raked in just before putting down the newspaper and straw mulch in the spring.

I usually add it in the fall but have not added it for the last 2 years at all because based on my soil test, my garden already has excess nutrients. I still add it to the asparagus bed in the Fall though.

I never have enough compost to do the whole garden, so I just use it in spots that seem to need it more during the growing season.
