Do you grow or buy a pumpkin to carve for Halloween?

I get mine from a local church... They get a big truckload of pumpkins delivered, all different sizes... Some congregation members unload it and they place the pumpkins neatly in rows on the church lawns...
It's quite the nice pumpkin patch!...

I love pumpkins and I always buy one for decoration but I don't carve it anymore. The last time I carved one, kids smashed it Halloween night and I got discouraged but I love seeing carved pumpkins.

I grow pie pumpkins for Thanksgiving pies, but this year the squirrels got all but 1 green one. My favorite nursery was giving them out for free at the chili cookoff, so at least I have 1 pumpkin for a pie.

I often buy and carve a pumpkin. (My garden is too small to grow my own.) I've got too much else to do today, though.

This is the first year I have not carved a pumpkin. Could really care less about the carving as I want the seeds!! But the carving is fun too.

We have one granddaughter who loves to visit in the spring at planting time. She and I plant pumpkins every year. Our soil is not very good for getting a good pumpkin crop, but we try anyway. Since we live so far away we just send her a photo of her pumpkins. This year we harvested two small ones and some Indian corn she helped me plant. We use it as a decoration next to the garage.

I buy pumpkins, but to eat, not carve up and use as decorations. The way things worked out this year, no one's trick-or-treating or handing out treats. Halloween on Wednesday when we have mid-week church services kind of kills things. But, while DD was working, DS and I bonded by running around town buying ourselves a lovely candy hoard. We turned off the porch lights and are sitting at our respective screens eating candy. I might not sleep much tonight.

I used to love, LOVE carving pumpkins. But now that just seems like work.
I grew two kinds of pumpkins this year, both hulless varieties for the seeds. But they are also very pretty. Naked bear, and Kakai. They are now laid out on surfaces in this room to cure. I love looking at them.
Happy Halloween!!

As often the case, I have to be an exception. Less than a month away from turning 80 and I have never ever carved a pumpkin. Whenever we had one, it was for eating, not a plaything. Previous several years there were a couple of intact pumpkins on the front stoop and they later became pies. None this year.
