Besides gardening I love to quilt, scrapbook, write and read. Nice pics. Hubby's a car buff and likes to build customs as well as 4x4's.

I do lots of things, but the main hobby is serving as the director of a 4th of July 5K, 10K and Half Marathon in my village. Brownville Freedom Run info can be seen at www.brownville-ne.com (click on the Freedom Run icon). It is a labor of love since I was once a runner, but now facilitate others to insanity.

I knit, am slowly working on fixing up this rickety old cottage we call Home, and hang out with my dog.

I knit at least a couple of big items each year and lots of little stuff (dishcloths etc). But I've never been able to understand the art of crochet. Well, I got the book "I can't believe I'm Crocheting" for Christmas. I learned how to make a reasonably even chain yesterday. My DIL was trying to help me, but just too much going on with kids and toys and movies and eating. Once Paintman goes to work today and I'm quiet and alone, I'll read through the instructions. If it still doesn't make sense, I'll look at some of the You Tube Instructions videos/Lion Brand Yarn videos available for Crochet Dummies like myself

Cooking, which goes hand in hand with the gardening, as there have been so many things I have had to grow to have them. Cookbook collecting...do you see a pattern here? Woodworking, as well as making and fixing many other things in the house.
SOW, I have to build another bookcase for all those excess books. ;D

When I can find the time, I love to make pieced quilts, which I machine sow and then hand tie. I also love old jazz standards and listen to them while I work in my office.
And I collect old cookbooks too. When I have the bucks I go to eBay and buy old seed catalogues, which is a new hobby but I control it by only spending the money I have in my paypal account.

I am jack of trades so to say You take plastic bags, like the ones from the supermarket, and use them for crochet? That's so cool. How do you do this? Do you cut the bags into strips and roll the strips to make something cordlike that you crochet? It never ceases to amaze me how clever people are with recycling something that gets thrown away.

Trudi, after the destruction in Haiti last year, at least one organization was encouraging crocheters to make mats out of grocery bags for Haitians to sleep on.
I'm just learning to crochet. Perhaps in future, I too will be able to participate in something like that to help others.

Wrennie, we used to camp when younger, but I'm past the point of feeling the need to sleep on the ground, ugh. I'll check out the Snuggles site, TY The crochet lessons are on hold until I finish a knitting project, most likely in a week. Love to read too. We went yesterday to exchange some Christmas gifts for DH. I was forced to walk past a bookstore twice. The third time, I could no longer restrain myself. Just looking turned into a 3 book purchase and a comment along the lines of "I just left you alone for a minute and now look" LOLOLOL...But...2 are gardening books and one is a Sylvia Browne book on Psychic healing. They cried out to me to take them home; how could I refuse???

Due to my last forsed retirement I gave away most of my posse of bonsai. The few that came with me were either of some sentimental value to me, or were projects too early to be presented.
I've still not found a good connection with how to apply for the Athens county fair--to present there. Next Saturday will be CFI seed swap-somebody'll know.

Most of my hobbies are food-related. Apart from gardening, which I do for fun, of course, but also to feed my family, I like to preserve the harvest in various ways from canning to drying to freezing. I also bake quite a bit during the colder months and I'm now learning new techniques for decorating cakes and cookies as well as candy- and chocolate-making. I love to photograph my garden and take close-up photos of individual plants, but it's nothing close to professional..more just point and shoot for my own enjoyment and also as a means of documentation. For recreation and exercise, we love to go camping and do extensive hiking as often as we can.
