Do you top either of these early in the seedling stage?

I take side branches (suckers) off of my tomato seedlings but I have never topped them.

I have heard of that but have no idea why you would do this or when etc. Short answer: No.

No, I never top tomatoes or peppers other than occasionally by accident. As in, "whoops, I forgot to move the grow light up!"
I do pinch early bloom buds off bells and large sweet peppers until the plants are at least 12"-18" tall and starting to branch. With small-fruited peppers and tomatoes I don't prune off bloom buds.
Other than that, I only prune peppers and tomatoes for disease control, to clip off broken limbs, plus the bare minimum necessary to manage size and shape. In my small garden, I can't let plants completely overrun their spots or they will crowd out their neighbors. I also don't have enough space to let them send off branches willy-nilly into the paths or I would never be able to get through to harvest!

Many years ago I did an experiment, and topped some peppers, since I had read about the possible benefits. I didn't see any better growth or production with the topped ones - same variety as ones left alone - so I never tried it again. My tomatoes I just pinch off some of the early suckers, and any diseased sections, but that's all.

Originally, I thought that we weren't supposed to answer it until the 26th, but then I saw everyone else was doing it, so...

no topping, let em go. They will get as tall as they like. Some things do do better with topping. Supposedly primocane blackberries will branch out and produce more fruit if topped a couple times. We shall see.
