We all know that successful gardening takes patience over time. You wait till you can safely plant that precious seed, then have to wait days for them to germinate. Then weeks before planting out. Then more weeks or months before you can harvest. It's great training in delayed gratification. So, after all the waiting, what are you most looking forward to realizing in your garden this summer?
Trying a new variety?
An old favorite?
To see how a new planting style or area has worked?
A different watering system?
Container plant experiment?
Preserving or cooking something?
? ? ?

It's going to have to be cucumbers, blueberries, and maybe watermelons. It sure ain't squash or watermelons this year.

I don't know what I look forward to the most.
I always feel happy when each crop is ready for harvest and it gives me a feeling of accomplishment when I start putting my fresh things into the freezer.
I am growing sweet potatoes for the first time this year so I am looking forward to seeing them and then there is salsify which is something that I have not grown for years and the plants are looking really healthy. Those roots are interesting.
I just can't choose any one thing. I like everything (except maybe pulling weeds).

Given that my spring tomato season has been terrible, at this point I am most looking forward to Little Lucy okra.
Runners up are the HoneyNut squash and the melons (for my kids) if they produce despite my late planting date.

New varieties definitely intrigue me and I like surprises, so, yes that's one think I am looking forward to. And this season it's also bell peppers. I can't wait to have some ripening.

It seems to change here to 'what's next?' I guess usually I'm most excited for the first Romano beans of the season to be ready. But that happened several weeks ago. Same with first tomatoes.
Right now I'm most looking forward to seeing what the new varieties of peppers are like - maybe close to 10 of them. There will be some hot ones that I'm not sure what I'm going to do with. Someone else's 'mild' is my 'rip your tongue out' heat. But the plants are lovely and it's fun watching them grow.
I'm also looking forward to making some good chili powders, and also trying to ferment some hot sauces. I'm very close to being out of the peppers I dehydrated last year. Not enough heat for making powders anyway. This year I want to dehydrate LOTS of peppers of all sorts.
I'm also excited about the new cabbage seed that may arrive in the mail today. Excited to get some planted tonight, and so forth.

I hope I can successfully grow corn! I think I'm most excited to see how my pole bean tower will do. But I'm also thrilled beyond thrilled that my tomatoes are doing so well and I cannot wait to start tasting.

This year it is the row of potatoes planted using some store bought potatoes as the seed. We liked the variety whatever it was so I planted about three pounds that were sprouting.
I am trying some muskmelon and watermelon again after years of failure. Maybe this year they will grow fruit not just vines. Also have a couple of sizes of pumpkin and we shall see.

Planted pole beans for the first time and they are really starting to climb. And a friend on another forum sent some tomato seeds that have the same first name as my 1 year old grandson. Hopefully his parents make the trip over the mountains sometime this summer for him to see "his" tomato.

About 35 of the tomato varieties are new but I haven't seen many new things in tomatoes in recent years. They are just more tomatoes. What I am looking for are the Triple Crown blackberries. Rabbits chewed them off in 2018 and canes froze this year. Floricanes developed from the stubs and now blooming like crazy. Harvest will be small percentage of what could have been but there WILL be berries!

That's really good news, Martin. I was afraid you'd lost your Triple Crown plants after the rabbits followed by the freezes.

I am looking forward to taste testing the new varieties of tomatoes I am trying for the first time, and also to see how the taste of the breeding project tomatoes is developing.
Second, I am looking forward to my first larger batch of cucumbers so I can do a ferment with lots of dill and garlic!

ground cherries have had failures 3 years in a row, finally have some growing now.
but likely the thing I want the most is the watermelons and the corn. I want corn tortillas from the corn, but will likely just make corn meal from it as that is lots easier. and will likely not eat any of the corn anyway, I kind of want all the seeds from it to plant next year.
